Herdwick Ecology was set up by Ceri Griffiths with the aim of providing expert and pragmatic advice by supporting clients to achieve their planning and development aspirations. 

Ceri is committed to delivering a professional, reliable and friendly service by working proactively with clients and the design team to develop strong working relationships.  

We work for a range of companies and individuals including developers, land agents, farmers, homeowners, architects and planners. 

We are a Registered Practice of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) thus ensuring we maintain our high standards.

PRELIMINARY ECOLOGICAL APPRAISAL (PEA)

Preliminary Ecological Appraisal are initial surveys undertaken to quickly and effectively identify likely constraints and opportunities. We can tailor these surveys to your requirements to deliver appropriate and cost effective advice early within the planning process.

PROTECTED SPECIES AND HABITAT SURVEYS

Herdwick Ecology can provide a comprehensive range of habitat and fauna surveys, including bat, badger, great crested newts, reptiles, otter and water vole. Surveys are undertaken by appropriately qualified and licensed ecologists, who have a detailed understanding of legislation and species ecology

ECOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT AND REPORTING

We produce a wide range of high-quality reports that are tailored to your requirements and planning needs.  We are proactive in working closely with statutory consultees throughout the planning process to deliver assessments and reports that achieve the required outcome.

MITIGATION STRATEGIES AND LICENSING

We design and implement a range of mitigation strategies, in line with legislation and planning policy to deliver proportionate, pragmatic and cost effective solutions. We are experienced in obtaining Natural England licences and are registered to use the Bat Low Impact Class Licence.

ECOLOGICAL CLERK OF WORKS (ECOW) AND SITE SUPERVISION

Herdwick Ecology can provide ecological support on site. Our ecologists hold CSCS cards and are experienced with working on construction sites. We can advise and provide supervision for a range of works including vegetation and building clearance and mitigation licence works.

ECOLOGICAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT (ECIA) AND HABITAT REGULATIONS ASSESSMENT (HRA)

We are experienced at carrying out both Ecological Impact Assessments and Habitat Regulation Assessments across a wide range of sites, of varying complexity and scale. We work closely with other disciplines to assess effects arising from air quality, recreational disturbance and habitat loss.
